‘Angry bikers’ block roads in Brussels

10:14 23/06/2014

Around 350 bikers of the motorcycling federation Fédération Belge des Motards en Colère (FBMC) blocked traffic in central Brussels at the weekend in order to draw attention to the ‘carnage’ on the roads and to educate drivers about the need to share roads in a responsible and respectful fashion. The 350 motorcyclists blocked Boulevard Anspach and the road leading to the Koekelberg basilica.

“In comparison to 2013 figures, we’ve already seen a 52% increase in the number of motorcylists injured and a 15% rise in the number of motorcyclists killed…. It’s not the fine weather that kills, it’s other road users lack of care,” said FBMC spokesman Joe Vereecke.

“We don’t want to blame anyone, we just want to demystify the world of motorcycling. The motorcyclist is a road user just like any other,” said Vereecke.
