Anderlecht hooligan arrested in Portugal is a policeman
One of seven Belgian football hooligans arrested in Lisbon on Tuesday is a Brussels policeman, Het Laatste Nieuws reported yesterday. The information has been confirmed by a press release from the Brussels-West police force. The arrests took place before the Champions League game between Benfica and Anderlecht, which the Portuguese team won 2-0. Nearly 640 Anderlecht supporters had flown to Lisbon for the occasion, but a hundred of them were there primarily for fighting with Benfica supporters. An battle took place, during which several Portuguese fans, but also a local policeman, suffered blows. Lisbon police intervened and was able to arrest seven Belgian fans, one which turned out to be a Brussels policeman. The hooligans were released after a hearing and will handed fines. The policeman among them will be facing appropriate disciplinary action, the statement said.
