Already 480 victims of internet banking fraud

12:10 03/10/2012

Over 480 bank customers have been the victim of internet fraud this year, for a total of almost €1 million. The practice is known as phishing, and starts with bogus emails, purporting to be from a bank, being sent to unsuspecting customers, asking them to reply confirming their banking details. Belgian banks have seen a total of €3 million ‘disappear’ this year through hacking. Two-thirds has been recovered, but 480 customers have together lost €935,000 which could not be traced. Other victims also report receiving phone calls allegedly from their bank, asking them to confirm their banking details over the telephone.
