After Youth for Climate protests, now it's grandparents' turn
The Youth for Climate march became a regular Thursday occurrence in Brussels. But now, a group of "grandparents for climate" will demonstrate in the capital instead - because their grandchildren are too busy taking end-of-year exams.
"Young people have been mobilising for the climate cause, but at the moment they have their nose in their books, revising," the organisers say. "The future of our grandchildren is at stake and we want MPs and European leaders to take strong action. How much longer will we have to wait for an ambitious and fair climate policy?"
Thursday's protest coincides with the day that Belgium's new federal MPs are sworn in. On the same day, EU leaders are meeting to discuss their preparations for the UN climate summit in September.
The grandparents for climate demonstration will begin at 13.30 a stone's throw from the federal parliament, on the corner of Rue Royale and Rue de Louvain.
