Advice on moving to flemish region
I found a great little house near La Hulpe but turns out it is actually on the flemish side (Overjise).
Has anyone had any experience moving from the walloon to flemish region? I'm interested in knowing about transfer of services (electrabel, belgacom, etc...), difficulty in receiving bills/other notices in flemish only, and ease of communication at the commune for residency issues.
My husband and I are fluent in French and English but not Flemish.
Thanks a lot of your help.
Sincerely,
Sylvia
I have not lived in Wallonia but do live in Flanders. Many of the services, like Belgacom offer many services in English as well as Dutch. The key is to default to English instead of French. If you have time, take some Dutch lessons because it definitely earns you some points with the Flemish speakers but most are happy to communicate with you in English. It is just better not to pull out your French unless you know you are speaking with a French speaker.
