Adpo opens Belgium’s first LNG station

10:47 15/05/2014

Terminal operator at the Port of Antwerp, Adpo Group yesterday opened Belgium’s first LNG (liquid natural gas) terminal in Waaslandhaven, in Kallo. The construction of the terminal cost €1 million.

LNG is liquefied natural gas that is cleaner than diesel and about a quarter of the price. Adpo already purchased ten hybrid LNG trucks, but in time wants to replace all of its 50 trucks with LNG models.

Unlike LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), LNG was until now not used in Belgium as fuel for trucks. LNG trucks have lower emissions of particulate matter, CO2 and nitrogen.

“Diesel costs as much as €36.40 per 100 km, while LNG costs €27,” says Filip De Dijcker, managing director of Adpo. “The ten hybrid trucks cost €1.2 million, but the payback period is four years.”
