80km of new cycle lanes approved for Brussels

11:44 04/05/2015

Between 2016 and 2018, the Brussels Region is set to create 80km of new bicycle lanes in the capital set away from the traffic.

The plan, put forward by  Brussels mobility minister Pascal Smet (SP.A), will see the establishment of a large network of cycle lanes dedicated to bicycles only. Besides developing lanes along Brussels’ canal, Smet is also looking to create a "motorway " for cyclists coming in from the outskirts of Brussels via the four main entry points to the capital: north, south, east and west.

The cost of the new network is put at €60 million.
