4x400 team set national record and bag bronze at World Relays

11:49 04/05/2015

The Belgian 4x400  men's relay team picked up a bronze medal and set a new national record (2.59.33) on Sunday at the IAAF World Relays 2015 in Nassau, Bahamas. The team came in behind the US and the Bahamas.

The team comprising Dylan Borlée, Julien Watrin, Jonathan Borlée and Kevin Borlée, in that order, improved on the time set by the Borlée twins and Cédric Van Branteghem and Arnaud Ghislain in 2008 during the Olympic Games in Peking.

The Belgian team’s performance and presence at the World Relays games sees them qualify for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Trainer Jacques Borlée was delighted. "It’s a great moment. The guys really pulled off an incredible performance. The best since the team was set up in my opinion. And to set a Belgian record at this stage in the season is the icing on the cake. Remember, the world’s elite attend these games. And we still have room for improvement."
