45,000 m² of commercial premises at Palace of Justice
A total of 45,000 square metres will be made available for shops, catering areas and tourism and trade activities inside the Brussels Palace of Justice, the secretary of state for public buildings, Servais Verherstraeten told L'Echo and De Tijd. The government had previously decided to dedicate parts of the building to private activities, its proximity to Avenue Louise making it a direct competitor for the other major shopping centre projects in and around Brussels. The dome will become a tourist attraction, while the upper floors remain reserved for the courts that still occupy the palace, such as the Court of Cassation. The lower floors, situated in the base of the building, will host the new commercial facilities.
