130 mobile phones a day stolen in Belgium

06:35 16/10/2015

In the past year in Belgium, nearly 47,500 mobile phones were reported stolen, or an average of 130 phones per day, writes La Dernière Heure. The number of mobile phone thefts in the past year is 7,000 higher than it was 10 years ago, the newspaper adds. Compared to two years ago, however, the number of thefts has decreased by 3,000.

"Mobile phone thieves often use very cunning tricks," writes the newspaper. “Some will even pretend to be a tourist and ask their victim for directions. Then they unfold the city map above the table, making it easy for the thief to grab the victim's phone.”
