Nearly 100,000 Belgian tourists were caught speeding on French motorways in July and August, an increase of 20% compared to the same period in 2012, De Standaard, Het Nieuwsblad and the SudPresse newspapers report today. 53,400 Belgian motorists were caught in July, and a further 44,700 in August. Between January and June this year, 129,905 Belgians had already been fined for speeding. Since the signing of an agreement between France and Belgium, Belgian drivers caught in France now have their speeding tickets sent to their home address. It is estimated that more than 70% of the fines issued to Belgian motorists by French authorities are paid.
