10-year-old boy killed by van in Ixelles

A 10-year-old boy has died after being hit by a van in Ixelles.

The incident happened on Avenue du Congo, near the junction with Boulevard Général Jacques, on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died as a result of his injuries, a spokesman for the Brussels prosecutor's office said.

The van driver, a 27-year-old man, tested negative for drugs and alcohol. He spent the night in hospital suffering from shock.

Investigators have examined the scene and are speaking to witnesses to attempt to clarify the exact circumstances.
