De Bosuil Cultural Centre,

BLOC will be performing Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera The Sorcerer from 23rd to 26th May at the De Bosuil Cultural Centre, Jezus-Eik, Overijse.

BLOC's Sorcerer is set in the 1960s, an era when, for the first time, youngsters had their own fashions, The Beatles reigned supreme, and the Twist was all the rage!

Love in a teapot, a newly betrothed couple, romantically repressed villagers, and a sneaky Sorcerer add up to a recipe for excitement and mayhem in the village of Ploverleigh. It promises to be an exciting production!

You've heard of The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore - three well-known comic operas written by Gilbert & Sullivan - but did you know that Britain's famous 19th-century duo wrote fourteen operas altogether? Their first big success wasThe Sorcerer, in which a love-philtre, administered to a whole village in nothing more sinister than a traditional English teapot, results in a comical series of ill‑assorted matches.  Like all the other G&S operas, The Sorcerer combines Sullivan's immortal melodies with the wit and humour of Gilbert's lyrics, and at the same time pokes fun at English hypercorrectness!

The Sorcerer - just your cup of tea!
