Permanent Residence in Belgium (Non EU)

Question

Hi All,

Hope you are doing great!

I will be completing my 5 years in Belgium in March 2020.

Recently, my current employer applied for my work permit which expires in Nov 2019. And we got the approval for the same till 2022. (As per new rules introduced in Jan 2019). My current residence card is valid until February (1st week). There is a one month gap in 5 years completion (march) and the date of renewal (February). So I have some doubts regarding PR:-

1. Can they initiate the request for the PR even if I have a valid residence card which I should get in February?

2. I live in Antwerp and I am planning to relocate(During September) in Brussels. Could this impact the process?

Thanks & Best Regards

J

1) No. You apply for that when you've done your 5 years. LOcal commune.
2) No. Well the real answer is "probably" because Brussels is notoriously slow with administrative procedures, but that's all supposed to be changing, and the legislation remains the same. So at the worst, it should just be longer queues.
