Pepa Niebla Quintet
Pepa Niebla is a singer of Spanish origin, currently based in Brussels. After completing her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels alongside David Linx, Stephane Galland, Christophe Wallemme among others, she has sung in countless collaborations including live, radio, and discography publications both in the Spanish and also in the British and Belgian jazz landscape. Pepa Niebla is currently working with top European rhythm section, to produce her next album ¨Renaissance¨. For the first time, Pepa Niebla will include her own compositions on her album. ¨Renaissance¨ establishes a new period in her career, a whole new chapter. The album brings a sense of beauty, freedom and light through the melodic aspects of her compositions, the harmonic colours and the lyrics in each piece. Her compositions contain a clear influence from the contemporary jazz sound of New York. Also evident are the influences from her music background - elements of swing, groove, soul. Pepa’s unique style combines these influences and other rhythmic elements without losing the organic aspect of the development of the tunes. For this new project, the line up will include the Spanish guitarist and composer Toni Mora, Beligian pianist Maxime Moyarts, Alex Gilson on Double Bass from France and the recently award winning Daniel Jonkers on Drums from Holland. Pepa´s singing has been highly inspired by Dianne Reeves and Nancy Wilson, and composers such us Benny Golson, Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny or Brian Blade and the Fellowship.
