Corsica – it’s 1978. A few youngsters, moved by a crazy desire to contribute to the preservation of their oral heritage, now in serious decline, take on the project of bringing back to life the longstanding vocal traditions of their island. And so A Filetta was born. These six singers know better than anyone else the secret of this technique, of this complex and magnificent vocal art, and they know how to share it and revive it in a way that is as intense as it is authentic.

Their road has been a long one, marked along the way by encounters and opportunities to discover other disciplines, other artistes, other traditions. It’s no doubt this that makes A Filetta’s repertoire unique and has enabled them to cut loose from any sense of filial duty in order never to lose their freedom to compose and to create. You will find sacred or profane singing, reflecting a variety of influences: music for a film by Bruno Coulais, compositions for choregraphies by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, extracts from the chorus of an ancient tragedy or pieces taken from a requiem commissioned by the Saint-Denis festival. It’s music at the service of a vision of the world that rejects any suggestion of falling back on a narrow identity.
