Buitendenker - “outside thinker” in Dutch - puts on walks around Belgium in English, French and Dutch. One of the group's founders, Kathryn Sheridan, says most people already know that walking in nature is beneficial. Buitendenker is more than just walking, though. The outing provides a chance to relax and gain perspective.

Triple treat at Brussels' Horta Museum

It's 100 years since Victor Horta moved out and sold both his house and his studio, 50 years since the opening of the museum and 30 years since the restoration was started. To mark these anniversaries, Brussels' Horta Museum is putting on three exhibitions, all under the banner of "A Collection of Collectors". The museum is also now three buildings: The building next door to the museum was purchased a few years ago and has now come into its own. This extension was created to ease the wear and tear on the other two which were suffering from the museum’s international celebrity, by providing a visitor welcome space, an exhibition space and room for the administrative offices. Museum curator Benjamin Zurstrassen tells us about the three concurrent exhibitions.

Spring-summer shows at Villa Empain

Take a gorgeous Art Deco villa, fill it with over 160 works of art by over thirty ground-breaking artists of the 1920s and 1930s and what have you got? Flamboyant, a spectacular show with masterpieces from expressionism, surrealism, futurism, cubism, bauhaus, de stijl, art deco, constructivism and abstraction. This is truly a unique opportunity to see all these pieces at one time since they come from private collections, public collections, galleries and libraries from different cities across Europe. Additionally in the villa's cellars you can discover another exhibition, this one dedicated to the story of Heliopolis, a city that rose from the Egyptian desert by the will of Edouard Empain, a Belgian industrialist, who among other things, was the designer and builder of the Paris Metro. Heliopolis was a dream of his that he made reality. Director of the Boghossian Foundation and Curator of Flamboyant Louma Salamé tells us what it took to organize the exhibition.
Flamboyant, until 24 August
Heliopolis, until 18 August
