The Federal Public Service for Economy yesterday announced that Belgium was not affected by the problem of the presence of horse meat in some ready-made frozen dishes. Belgium was notified, via the European Information Exchange system, that it was “not affected”, according to a statement from the FPS Economy, adding that “consumer safety was not in danger”. The FPS Economy also confirmed that contact had been made with distributors association Comeos, which is conducting an investigation among its members. It said the presence of the Findus brand, under which the first beef lasagne was found to contain horse meat, was limited in Belgium.
