Belgian on board Bali crash plane
A Belgian was among the 108 passengers on board the plane that missed the runway on Saturday at Bali airport and landed in the sea, a spokesman for the Indonesian transport ministry confirmed. All passengers and seven crew members survived the crash, though some passengers were slightly injured and seven were still in hospital this morning. Four foreigners were among the passengers: one Belgian, one French and two Singaporeans. The airline, Lion Air, which has only been active for 13 years, is banned from flying in the EU and the US. The black box containing flight data has been recovered, while the one containing conversations which took place in the cockpit has not yet been found. According to the spokesman, investigators will speak to the Indonesian pilot and co-pilot. The police have already conducted alcohol and drug tests, which returned negative.
