Living in Netherlands while having residency and a business in Belgium?

Question

I am a Canadian citizen that is trying to start a business and also apply for residency in Belgium. However, I want to own a house and stay in Netherlands (Maastricht).

1) Is this possible?

2) What are the personal and corporate tax implications of working Belgium and living in NL?

3) Are there rules around owning a house in NL that will cause an issue?

Thank you in advance for all your help!

R.Harris

I suggest contacting a professional in these matters.

I'd agree with R.HARRIS above, for these types of questions, you really need to speak to a professional, probably a tax accountant with cross border experience.

If you were an employee of a company in Belgium, living in the Netherlands there are well established rules and regulations for cross border workers, but your situation is different, and needs to be handled carefully.

I cannot answer your questions completely, and I agree the best thing to do is consult an accountant in Belgium. But on question 3 there is no reason that owning a house in Netherlands by itself causes a problem. However, if you are determined to start your business in Belgium, normally as a director you have to be resident here also. (That's what I have always been told anyway.)

Is there not some way you can register your company in Netherlands and have operate from there? And if neccessary set up a branch office in Belgium.
