Belgian police stopped a motorist in southern Limburg who owed more than €6.2 million in unpaid fines during an extensive police operation on Wednesday, reports Le Soir.

The individual, who was unable to pay the fine, had his vehicle seized, local police said.

The major police operation, which took place on several roads, involved various units and the presence of customs officials.

In addition to the motorist with the record fines, officers collected more than €18,000 for various offences and seized a total of seven cars.

Some 13 drivers tested positive for drug use and three were driving without a valid licence.

Three others were caught using their mobile phones while behind the wheel.
